  • The periodic table is arranged based on each elements atomic weight

  • The elements are organized in rows called periods and columns called groups or
    families

  • Each family has its own name:
    -
    alkali metals
    -
    alkaline earth metals
    -boron family
    -carbon family
    -
    nitrogen family
    -
    oxygen family
    -halogens
    -noble gasses
-transition metals (contains the lanthanides and the actinides)

  • On the periodic table, each box includes the symbol for the element, the elements atomic mass, and the elements atomic number

  • The periodic table was not something that was arranged and designed in one day, it took the help of many chemists over many years to get the final product.
